Q: I am not very smart on this insurance thing so help me out if you can. I am covered under my insurance for my pregnancy, it is a good insurance policy and only $250 out of pocket expense from my husbands company health insurance- Kaiser Permanente. We may be moving during the middle of the pregnancy. From what I read using COBRA I still would be covered, but even though COBRA would extend my coverage- Is it the same coverage as Kaiser Meaning, I have only a small out of pocket expense before, what is my new out of pocket expense- if any?
A: COBRA is a continuation of the same benefits and coverages you had before the qualifying event. The only difference is that the employer no longer pays for the cost of the health insurance. You should contact your health insurance company to see if your current plan will cover you if you move to a new area.
