Q: How soon will COBRA take effect, since I have a doctors appointment 4/24/08. Will I have coverage for that appointment?
A: As long as you sign up for COBRA before your election period ends, COBRA coverage is retro-active without a lapse in coverage. You may not be able to provide proof that you have insurance at your doctor’s appointment. However, any prescriptions or other medical bills that you pay for out of pocket during your election period must be reimbursed by the insurance company based on the benefits you had prior to your job ending. You will need to keep the receipts to submit to the insurance company.
