Q:  I am leaving my job April 26 to begin a new job may 1. I am currently covered through Select Med by my employer. The new company insurance will not be effective until June 15 (45 days). My wife is pregnant and due June 10. We live in Utah and I'd like to know what your child-birth coverage is, as well as your monthly premium for the three of us. Thank you, Ryan Thompson

A:  COBRA is a federal law, which allows you to continue on the employer’s group health plan.   When you elect COBRA coverage, it will be a continuation of the same group health plan that you were on the day before your insurance was terminated.  If the pregnancy was covered now, it will be covered with the COBRA election. Your COBRA costs would be 102% of the monthly premium.
