Q:  One of our employee’s is now on Cobra until July 31. Our open enrollment is September 1. She will like to keep her Cobra until it ends July 31 and enroll on the company's policy starting August 1. Does she have to wait until open enrollment or can she enroll as of August 1 because of loss of coverage.

A:  She will be able to enroll on your group plan because the loss of her COBRA coverage is considered a qualifying event which allows an individual to enroll on a group policy.   Once she enrolls, she will be allowed to change her selection during the open enrollment period if she likes.
