Q:My insurance cancelled on the first of September. I sent my check and forms in but when I went to pick up a prescription I was charged full price. How do I know when my coverage will be good again and can I be reimbursed for what I overpaid on my prescription?
A:As long as you sign up for COBRA before your election period ends, the COBRA coverage is retro-active.It will start on the same day that your group benefits ended.Any prescriptions or other medical bills that you paid for out of pocket during your election period must be reimbursed by the insurance company based on the benefits you had prior to your job ending. You will need to keep the receipts to submit to the insurance company. If you want to know if your insurance has been reactivated you should call the insurance company directly and see if you are active in their system.
