Q:  I need coverage for 18 months for two people is there plan I can get? I am retired. I have cobra now that ends on Nov. 30 through my employer.

A: The maximum amount of time an employee can continue on COBRA is 18 months.  However, a dependent may be able to obtain another 18 months for a total of 36 months if a second qualifying event should occur.

Also, if you become disabled you can continue for an additional 11 months for a total of 29 months.  You must be determined by the Social Security Administration to be disabled to qualify for this extension
. The disability must have occurred before or during that first 60 days of your COBRA coverage.
