Q:  My husband had been on COBRA since April 2006. He died 11/08. I have been told by his company's HR that I have coverage until 10/09. Don't I have coverage for 36 months due to the triggering event of his death? Please clarify. Thank you

A:  Since you were already on COBRA when your husband passed away, that was considered a second qualifying event, and you will be offered an additional 18 months of COBRA coverage for a total of 36 months on COBRA.
