Q: After my cobra runs out in June what is my next option to get someone to insure me with my pre existing condition.
A:
The maximum amount of time an employee can continue on COBRA is 18 months. However, a dependent may be able to obtain another 18 months for a total of 36 months if a second qualifying event should occur.
Also, if you become disabled you can continue for an additional 11 months for a total of 29 months. You must be determined by the Social Security Administration to be disabled to qualify for this extension. The disability must have occurred before or during that first 60 days of your COBRA coverage.
If you are not eligible for the extension of COBRA you should contact your state department of insurance to see what other insurance options are available to you.
