Q: I recently had my appendiz removed. At the time I did not have health insurance becuase I just started a new job and was not eligible for health insurance upon employment. I had health insurance at my previous job, however I did not receive information about Cobra. My health coverage ended November 27th. I needed medical attention on January 17th. It is now February 3rd. Who do I contact at my former employer to discuss this matter. Can I obtain Cobra insurance to pay for my medical bill. What are my options with Cobra?
A: If you have pre-ex conditions or health issues that are in need of being treated - you should make sure you continue on Cobra through your previous employer. Contact your employer to obtain the Cobra packet to extend your health insurance you previously had. 60 day window from last day of coverage. Since you are past the 60 days, you will not be eligible any longer. You may want to contact the Dept of Labor if you feel this was an error on the Employer's part. Their number is: 866-487-2365.
