Q: I have been on Cobra since Jan 2006. In Feb 2006 my wife had an accident that will require further surgery after the 18 month Cobra period has ended. It seems that my only alternative is an individual plan with a rider on my wife's pre-existing condition. This means that I will end up paying the full amount for her surgery. Any suggestions? Thank you.
A: If you were labeled legally disabled on or within 60 days of your election of COBRA you may qualify for an 11 month extension. If that is not the case than, you may want to check with your state insurance department to see if there is a program they have available for you. We offer a discount program called Basic Health that may work in your situation. You can visit the site below to see plan highlights. http://www.basichealthinsurance.com/highlights.aspx
