Q: How long do you need to be covered by your company's insurance plan before you can be eligible for Cobra if you leave? For example, if my company's insurance kicks in on May 15th and I resign on May 16th, will I be eligible for Cobra even though I was only under the insurance plan for one day?
A: An employee, spouse or dependents who are covered under a group health plan on the day before a qualifying event (in your case, resigning) will be eligible for COBRA continuation coverage. The length of time you are at your job is not an eligibility factor.
