Q:  My wife and I are getting a divorce which will be final on May 11. 2009 She is currently under my insurance and I am retired. How do we go about keeping her insured with the same insurance? Do I need to contact Cobra?

A:  If she is on your group health plan, you would need to contact your insurance carrier or your previous employer who you are continuing your coverage through and let them know the situation.  That you are going through a divorce and your wife needs to apply for Cobra.  She will then have eligibility up to 36 months of Cobra coverage as far as I am aware.
