Q: My daughter, age 21, recently graduated from college and is no longer covered by my Tricare Prime. Is Tricare Prime considered the same as employer provided group health insurance? Is she eligible for Cobra or possibly the low cost alternative?
A: COBRA covers group health plans offered by employers (private-sector or state/local government) that have more than 20 employees. Group health plans that are sponsored by private-sector are generally taken care of by ERSA. If your employer is obligated, than they will send information out to the beneficiary via US mail. It would be a continuation of the same insurance that was offered prior the termination of coverage. That coverage would cost 102% of the monthly premiums. A lower cost option may be available.
If you are a healthy person who does not live in NY, NJ, MA, or VT and would be interested in a lower cost Alternative to COBRA please Click Here With this policy you have the ability to choose your deductible: $250, $500, $1000 or $2500.
