Q:  When I retired in 2000, my employer agreed to keep me on the group medical insurance plan for 10 years. (Until I reached age 65 and became eligible for Medicare) Since I was teacher and did not pay into Social Security, I would not have qualified for Medicare. I am now working and will have enough quarters for Medicare in January 2111. My insurance coverage from my employer ends in June of 2010. Do I qualify for Cobra insurance from June 2010 until I qualify for Medicare in January 2111? Thank

A:  As long as you are not drawing from social security and are not on Medicare you should be eligible for Cobra through your employer.  If your company has more than 20 employers and has a group health plan still in force, you should be eligible.  Talk with your employer to verify this; they are who you sign up for Cobra through.
