Q:  How can I be forced to pay premiums for the time lapsed between recieving COBRA registration info when I was never notified that it would be retroactive from the cut off date?  A whole months very expensive premium not knowing I could have been using it?

A: COBRA is the name of a Federal Law. That law protects you from being without insurance in the event you may have needed to seek medical treatment before you were sent the election form. You should have gotten a letter stating your COBRA rights soon after the termination of your employment from the past employer. That letter should have explained the process.  The election form/letter should have stated your coverage dates also. Your employer is ultimately responsible for sending you this information.
