Q:Applied for Cobra in March under a company sponsored severance plan. Company filed chapter 11 following application and rates changed dramatically. I was not offered opportunity to change application in a timely matter to reduce cost. Am I subject to the 30 day grace period that the company is afforded?
A:Any questions you have in regards to your Cobra coverage is going to need to go through your previous employer, they are who handles your Cobra coverage.If you have questions in regards to if you can change your plans benefits or if you need to wait until open enrollment they should be able to answer that for you.If you feel that your rights are not being met by your previous employer, you can also visit www.dol.gov the Department of Labor is actually who oversees the Cobra law.They may be able to answer any questions you may have as far as your rights and plan changes you may have.
