Q: I have dental insurance through Cobra and it expires in December of 09. My dental insurance with my new employer won' take effect until September 09. My payment for cobra is deducted on the 5th of the month. My question is... I'm planning on having my 6 month check-up in August and I want to make sure Cobra covers it. I was planning on cancelling at the end of August so they don't take out a payment for September and on because I will have new coverage. If I cancelled the Cobra the day after my appointment will it still cover the claim....or do I have to wait for the claim to go through before I cancel it?
A: To verify your coverage and to make sure that that service is going to be covered with your Cobra coverage, I would recommend talking to your Cobra administrator directly. If you do not know who that is, call your previous employers HR department, they may be able to answer that question for you, if not ask them the phone number for whomever is handling your benefits, who you Cobra administrator is.
