Q:  Recently, my employer cut my hours to keep from paying my health insurance. My employer is an owner of a franchise with fewer than 20 employees. I realize I am not eligible for COBRA. My question is what steps do I take to find insurance for my husband and myself? We both have preexisting conditions and we are both over 50 years old.

A:  I would recommend contacting your State Department of Insurance, there may be a mini-cobra that is available in your State available to you.  You can also try visiting the website at http://www.naic.org You may be able to take something out on your own individual basis instead of on the group health plan available to you through your past employer.
