Q:  I will be on Medicare starting Sept 2009. My wife is 62 and needs heath insurance coverage. I understand she can get Cobra for a period of three years as a dependant of mine and having been on my work insurance plan for several years. Can I sign her up here and what are the monthly rates? I also understand there is a 9 month reduction in premiums for the Cobra participants. Does this apply?

A: If she is eligible she can be on Cobra up to 36 months, to sign up for Cobra you have to talk to your past employer whom you had the group health insurance with and they will supply you with a Cobra packet and how much it is going to cost for her.  As well as they can inform you if she meets the requirements for the reduction in the premium for her Cobra coverage.
