Q:This question is in reference to my parents. My father was the provider of Cobra and is now eligible for his Medicare (due to his age October 09) - my mother should be eligible for continual cobra coverage is what they were told because she is not eligible for Medicare yet (due to age) we were told she could be covered up to 36 months. Can you please help me - for she will not have coverage for medical very soon? Thank you so much.
A:You mother will be able to continue on Cobra because your father is eligible for Medicare and she should be subject to the coverage for up to 36 months. To extend her coverage and verify that I would talk with either your fathers past employer whom he signed up for Cobra through or you could talk with his Cobra administrator the individual handling his benefits directly. They should be able to get you the paper work or information needed to be sure your mother has the proper coverage.
