Q:  1st 18 months terminate in October. If shoulder surgery scheduled for August 19th, will I be able to extend Cobra until end of year either due to health recovery or due to 'recession' unemployment?

A:  You need to speak with your Cobra administrator or you past employer.  They are the individuals who are handling your Cobra benefits and they can let you know if you meet any requirements that allow you to extend your coverage.  To my understanding I don’t believe you can however I could be wrong. You can also visit the website www.dol.gov/COBRA to see if you can find any additional information as to if you can extend your coverage due to your circumstances and what your options may be.
