Q:  My previous employer has not sent me my cobra information yet and it has been almost two weeks since I lost my job. I need this info ASAP as I have a pregnant wife and my insurance will expire on 08/31/09.

A:  If you are on your employer’s group health plan until August 31st, than they have 45 days from that day to send you your Cobra packet to enroll.  From there you have 60 days to elect the coverage and the coverage of Cobra goes retro-active to your last day of benefits which it seems is August 31st.  If you need to speed the process along, you could always try to contact and speak with your past employer to see if there is any way you can get it quicker if need be.
