Q:I had blue cross PPO through my employer my last day of work was August 20 and they cancelled my insurance at that time I requested to be able to enroll to COBRA but so far I haven't received any information from them regarding COBRA enrollment. My question: 1) Can I enroll in COBRA on my own?
A:When you lose your job or quit, from the last day of your benefits, your employer whom employees more than 20 people and still has a group health plan in force, has 45 days to send you your Cobra packet to enroll. When you receive the packet you have 60 days to elect the coverage and if you do so it would go retro-active to your last day of coverage therefore there is no lapse in your coverage.
