Q:I am making this inquiry of behalf of a patient. Our patient believed she had coverage until the end of August 2009. She had a procedure completed in our office on 8/4/09. It turned out that she misread her statement and her coverage terminated 8/1/04. Is there any grace period that may entitle her to have coverage for this procedure? Thank you.
A:You would need to have your patient talk to her past employer whom she enrolled into Cobra with; they are whose group health plan she is continuing on.Cobra is a law, not a Company that allows you to continuer your same insurance after you have left a job.If she wants to see if she can re-instate or see what ability she has with her coverage at the present time, my recommendation would be to contact her past employer and see if they can answer those questions or put her in contact with her Cobra administrator the person handling her benefits directly.
