Q:  Does an employer have to offer COBRA when an employee retires at age 66 and is eligible for Medicare and for how long? How long can the employees spouse (who is not old enough for Medicare) COBRA after the employee retires at age 66.

A:  Its possible they may not offer the employee the Cobra because they are eligible for Medicare, they may make them go onto Medicare.  As far as the spouse who is not over the age of 65 yet, they would be able to continue the benefits on Cobra.  But you need to get a Cobra packet from the previous employer so you can enroll the spouse into the coverage.
