Q:I have gone through the 9 months of help paying for cobra but I have still not found a full time job. The company that I am getting my insurance did a new open enrollment and the new premium also went up $400 per month. My total from Cobra last month to next month will be $700 increase. Is there any help for me on this increase? I was also told that I can not even think of looking for coverage on my own until I use the full time of cobra.
A:You can be on Cobra up to 18 months, the reduced Cobra cost is up to 9 months and your 9 month reduced rate has ended. You can continue on Cobra for the remainderof your 18 month maximum term, but if the cost is to much you can look for your own individual coverage which may be more affordable.
