Q:  I am currently receiving COBRA coverage (with 1/3rd discount under Obama plan). How long can I take it after I'm eligible under my new employer? That is, my employer's coverage is much more expensive. Can I legally wait the entire 9 - 18 months before going under my present employer's coverage?

A:  Those who are eligible for other group health coverage (such as a spouse's plan or new job that offers insurance) or Medicare are not eligible for the premium reduction any longer. You would need to contact your Cobra administrator and let them know of the change.
