Q:  My mother has brain cancer and was thinking of going back to work only 3 hours a day. Can she still be qualified for Cobra? Her company said that she would have to work 35 hours or more to receive Health insurance through work but she doesn’t think she can work that long.

A:  To qualify for Cobra, she will have to have been on the health insurance previously.  If she has the insurance still, but is deciding to change her hours and will lose her health insurance due to that, she can enroll into Cobra coverage.  She needs to get the Cobra packet to enroll from her employer and enroll into that coverage.  Cobra is a continuation of the same insurance she had previously, she is just going to be paying for it on her own.  You can also go to www.dol.gov/COBRA to view more Cobra information.
