Q:I am 64 years old, retirement age is 66 but I want to retire at 65. I understand my employee has to pay 65% of insurance if I am laid off but how about if you leave your job do I have to pay 100%? Thank you.
A:To be eligible for the reduction, you need to be involuntarily laid off, not eligible for Medicare or spouses Insurance. Therefore if you retire at 65, you are eligible for Medicare and voluntarily left your job, so you would not be eligible for the Cobra reduction.
