Q:  Hello, I am currently employed and am covered by insurance.  I have been covered for the last two years.  However, my husband has been transferred to a new job, and so I am leaving my current position.  The problem is that I am 19 weeks pregnant, which I am told is a pre-existing condition, so I am not eligible for some of the more affordable plans. I am very concerned, and need help figuring out what I can do to get coverage for this pregnancy.  Can someone, a real person, please respond with some options for me? I would greatly appreciate it!

A:  Cobra is a continuation of the exact same Insurance you had when you were working.  To be eligible for Cobra your Company has to have more than 20 employees.  So really, like you had said pregnancy you won’t be able to find coverage.  Your only and best option is to enroll into Cobra, or get on a group health plan either through a new employer or your husbands new employer.  If you want to continue with Cobra until you are enrolled on the new employers plan, you would need to speak with your HR Department that you will be leaving, ask them for your Cobra information.  They will supply you with the packet of information you need to make sure to continue your benefits.
