Q: I recently resigned from my job, it has been a few days. I need to make doctor's appointments this week; do I just use my old insurance card and information while I am waiting for COBRA forms/to make a payment? It will be backdated and covered right? Do I notify the doctor's office that I will be on COBRA or just provide my normal insurance information I previously used. Thanks!
A: You can let your provider’s office or doctors know you are in the process of enrolling into Cobra, you may be the one billed for the service. But when you enroll into the Cobra coverage it goes retro-active so you should be able to submit the claim and be reimbursed or have the service covered. It’s the same coverage you had preciously so you should be able to use the same insurance card, but if they call to verify benefits, most likely it will say its inactive until Cobra is elected.
