Q:  My Company is being bought on July 23rd and they said they would have our CORBA information by August 23rd. I am pregnant and due August 15th. I wanted to know what I tell the hospital and who do they need to call when I am admitted? Also what the cost will be?

A:  Once you receive your election letter in the mail and you return the completed form along with the first premium payment, your COBRA coverage will be active. Your policy that you had will be reinstated and will continue from the last day of coverage. If you have to seek medical treatment within the election period, you may have to pay out of pocket and/or hang on the bills and receipts. Once the policy has been reinstated you can turn those claims into the insurance company for review and reimbursement. Your coverage should be the same, so you can give the information from the insurance company that you had to the facility and explain to them that you are in the election process of COBRA.

The amount of your COBRA is no more than 102% of the monthly cost. You are responsible for the entire cost of the group health plan offered by the employer. So, you will be paying the portion you are used to paying from your pay checks, and the portion of the insurance that the employer contributed. You will get the premium information in the mail with your election notice.
