Q:  I am 64 yrs. old & will turn 65 Nov. 22, 2007. I am employed full time & have full health benefits. My wife (turns 62 Aug. 20, 2007) is also covered under my benefits plan. I will be eligible for Medicare Nov. 1, 2007. If I terminate employment or reduce my hours on Dec. 1, 2007, making me ineligible for my company's benefits, how many months would my wife (who would lose company benefits) be eligible for Cobra?

A:  When you and your dependants come off of the employer’s group health plan due to your entitlement to Medicare, your spouse will be able to continue the same group health insurance (at her expense) for a total of 36 months.
