Q:  My 2 children were covered under their fathers (my ex husband) health insurance and he was laid off. My insurance with my job will be active in September but I would like to see if I can pay for my children to be covered under cobra in the meantime. My ex husband can not afford to pick up cobra but I want my children to still be covered under an insurance.

A:  COBRA will be offered to your ex husband by the past employer, once the insurance with them has terminated.  They will be sending information to him in the mail offering a continuation of the group health plan. When he gets the election form in the mail he can elect coverage for just the children. You can contact his past employer for specific information regarding the group health coverage. You will only have 60 days from the day the election letter is sent to make the selections and return the form. You will also be responsible for making a premium payment before the policy will be reinstated.
