Q: I have moved. I am currently insured under Cobra. I have called my old job to change my address- as told to do by a Cobra employee. But, I have not received my statement at my new address, and am very concerned about my payment being on time. What can I do to pay my premium with Cobra?
A: Your previous employer or plan administrator is not required by COBRA law to provide you with coupons or a monthly statement. It is your responsibility to pay for the COBRA continuation and to make sure it is paid on time. If you have been consistently receiving a statement each month and now haven’t, you need to contact your previous employer or plan administrator. Be sure to keep the address and phone of the plan administrator in a safe place. They will be included in the COBRA packet you initially received. That way if your statement is late you will be able to mail your payment to them in a timely manner.
