Q: I have been retired now for over a month and have not received requested paper work to continue my health care coverage what do I need to do?
A: Your employer legally has up to 45 days to get to you the information you need to elect COBRA. If you need to seek medical treatment with in the time period it takes for you to get information from your employer and the time you sign up and make your payment, you may have to be reimbursed for your treatment. As soon as you sign up for COBRA, (before the deadline) and make your premium payment, you are going to be covered retro actively back to the last day of coverage and there will be NO lapsein coverage. If the 45 days have passed you need to contact your employer. You have an additional 60 days to send in the election form.
