Q: I left my job on bad terms. They claimed conduct issues but "gross" is nowhere on the paperwork. I have mailed my check but it hasn't been cashed. Would I be notified if they chose not to give me Cobra due to conduct issues? Can I call my insurance carrier? HR is basically refusing to speak with me (won't return calls).

A: COBRA is a federal law that requires employers with 20 or more employees to offer the continuation of the same group health care coverage after you've voluntarily or involuntarily left your job, or have had your work hours reduced.

Because COBRA is simply the continuation of the same coverage you had through a previous employer, you would need to contact the COBRA Administrator for your previous employer to discuss coverage. The COBRA Administrator can be a third party company or within the company. Calling your carrier may be an option.
