Q: As a retired municipal employee I have earned health insurance coverage to age 65. Six months after my retirement my wife (who still works) lost her employer-paid health insurance coverage. My employer plan refused to add my wife since she wasn't on my coverage a year prior to my retirement. There was no coverage offered under COBRA. What action, if any can I take?

A: Your wife is not a qualified beneficiary to your COBRA continuation because she was never on the plan when you were an active employee. However, there are a number of options for you and your wife.

We have COBRA alternatives and with the Affordable Care Act, there are a number of options available. We are the expert with all things COBRA. We can help you sort through your options.
