Q: I recently received a letter form my plan administrator on July 24 2007 and it said the due to work hours reduction that my insurance policy ends July 22, 2007. I know cobra will pick up the medical bills if I elect to select COBRA, but I will be going on my wife’s Insurance Policy but not until Aug 1 2007. Doesn't my previous insurance have to cover me until the end of the month? With no lapse in coverage.

A:  There is no law requiring your previous employer to continue your group benefits to the end of the month.   It would depend on the employer’s group plan, some plans end the coverage on the last day of work and others provide the insurance through the end of the month.
