Q: I have heard about COBRA election being under time restrictions. How long do I have to elect coverage?

A:  COBRA election does have certain time limitations. You have only 60 days to elect COBRA. That is by the 60th day from when the written notice was sent to you or from when your health care coverage has been terminated, whichever event is later.

If you miss the election period date you will lose your rights and will no longer qualify for continuation coverage.

If you have lost your opportunity for insurance with your past employer and are looking for a short term medical policy you may qualify for an Alternative policy.
