Q: Can I retire at 63 yrs old and go on cobra from my job's insurance and stay on cobra until I collect Medicare at 65? I have copd and diabetes and it is difficult for me to work full time as I am on breathing machine and many meds....it is too much work for me to apply for disability, so I am trying to work 1 more year until I am 63-can I do cobra for 24 months until Medicare takes over.

A:  COBRA continuation is for a limited amount of time.  If the employee retires they are only eligible for a maximum of 18 months of coverage.   Some plans allow an employee to convert their COBRA continuation to an individual policy after their COBRA coverage ends.
