Q:  I am currently pregnant. I have been with my company for almost 2 years now and have had continuing insurance coverage along with my husband. If I quit my job before I have the baby, will I be covered for maternity and will I receive any short term disability benefits?

A:  COBRA is a continuation of your previous employer's group health policy.  If there is coverage for pregnancy and maternity on that health plan than there will be coverage for the pregnancy  and maternity through COBRA continuation. Your newborn child can be added on to COBRA for additional premiums.  You will be able to remain on COBRA for up to 18 months.  You will not be able to continue the short term disability benefits because they are not subject to COBRA laws.
