Q: My daughter got a new job in June. Her new job's medical insurance has not kicked in yet. She's not happy at this new job and wants find another job. She is currently on Cobra and she thinks it's ending next month. Can't she be on it for 18-36 months? Also, if she gets another job, can she go back on Cobra again and will the 18-36 months start all over again? She hasn't gotten a new job yet but needs to know the Cobra information in advance.

A:  Your daughter, as the employee, can continue with COBRA for a maximum duration of 18 months from each previous employer.  If she is not enrolled on the new job's health plan when she leaves, she will not be eligible for COBRA through that employer.
