Q: How do I find out when my next payment is due? How do I find out the amount of my next payment? Where do I send my next payment? I am insured by United Healthcare through COBRA, but United Healthcare says that I need to make my payments to COBRA.
A: If your past employer has hired a third party administrator, than generally, you will be making payments to them. If they do not have an administrator, then those COBRA payments will be made out to the employer. Your premium payments for COBRA continuation will remain the same unless the insurance company has a rate increase or you make a change to your COBRA coverage. COBRA is not an insurance company. It is the name of a federal law that allows you to continue on the group health plan that your past employer has chosen for you and other active employees. If you need to find out whom the employer has hired to handle the COBRA payments, you should contact someone from the Human Resource Department or the benefits manager.
