Q:  I elected employee-only COBRA health coverage. Upon birth of my new baby, I will change my coverage to employee + children. At that time, can I also add my daughter, who was covered before I terminated employment? I chose not to add her to COBRA to reduce expenses & had her father add her to his coverage. When my baby is born, can I add her along with my newborn?

A:  COBRA law will allow you to add your newborn baby to your COBRA coverage with-in 30 days from the birth.  You will not be able to add your other child(ren) to your COBRA coverage until your previous employer's open enrollment.  You will need to contact them to find out when this will occur.
