Q:  I understand that Cobra coverage is generally available for 18 months. .My question is, if someone uses up all Cobra time, for either dental or medical, but then finds employment and coverage under a new employer, does having been on Cobra for the full term, hurt them in the long-run if they need to go on Cobra again at some point in the future through the different employer? Or would a new 18 months be available again?

A:  When a covered employee leaves a job, they can stay on that employer's group health plan for up to 18 months.  Every time that you leave another employer that has more than 20 employees and you are enrolled in their group health plan prior to leaving, you would be eligible for COBRA continuation.  There is no limit to how many times a person can become eligible for COBRA.
