Q: I am trying to find out how to get enrolled in COBRA. My employer has never sent me a form and it has been close to the 45 days. I asked him, and he said he doesn't know what I'm talking about. I believe my health insurance policy through them was cancelled.
A: Your employer is required by law to offer you the continuation of their group health policy for up to 18 months if there are more than 20 employees and they are not a church organization. Your employer should contact the US Department of Labor at 1-866-487-2365 or www.dol.gov The DOL will inform your employer of their legal responsibilities to comply with COBRA laws. If you do not receive the paperwork with in the 45 days, then you should contact the US Department of Labor to report them.
