Q: My COBRA payment was sent in last week. I am scheduled to have a ct scan this week will my insurance be in effect then?
A: COBRA coverage is a continuation of an employer's group health policy. Once you elect COBRA the insurance is retro-active to your last day of work or last day of group benefits, whichever is later. There is nolapse in coverage. You can contact your previous employer to see if they have received payment. You can also call the insurance company, their phone number is the back of your ID card. Any medical bills that occur during the election period and waiting for the paperwork to be processed will be paid by the insurance company based on the group plan's benefits. You may have to pay out of pocket and get reimbursed by the insurance company once the payment has been applied.
