Q: I signed up for COBRA over the phone. Is this coverage effective immediately?
A: Your COBRA coverage is retro-active. COBRA will begin the day after the qualifying event took place or when the group health coverage ceased because of a qualifying event. COBRA is a continuation of your previous employer's group health plan and there will not be a lapse in coverage. If you have a claim that occurs during the election period and you pay out of pocket, the insurance company will reimburse you when the paperwork has been processed.
