Q: My wife worked at a hospital and she is now in Australia for 6 months. She dropped her coverage but I am covered with COBRA. She pays the monthly payments of $414.71 via internet payment. I am receiving letters addressed to her and I am confused whether you have been receiving my payments.
A: Since she sends the COBRA payments to her previous employer or their plan administrator you will need to contact her previous employer. If they have hired a plan administrator to process the COBRA paperwork and payments, the previous employer can give you the phone number to call them. You can also call your bank to see if the withdrawals have been made or you can contact the insurance company by the phone number on the back of the ID card. The insurance company will tell you if your insurance is active.
